Alice Springs

Alice Springs is not typically known for water damage to concrete, but in this case, a long-term leak went unidentified and caused major structural damage to multiple levels of a concrete car park slab. Portolesi Structural worked closely with its Engineering Partner to assess the damage and identify the most appropriate repair procedures for each of the areas affected. This collaboration was essential to ensure that all repairs would be effective and durable. The works also required the production of a comprehensive propping design, which was necessary to ensure the stability of the structure before any remediation could begin.

Over an extended period, the repair work was completed through a methodical process. This approach ensured that the car park remained structurally sound and safe to use by the large number of vehicles that pass through each day. During the remediation, the engineers decided to add new structural beams and columns to reinforce the structure further. This structural steel was meticulously shop-drawn by the Portolesi Structural Drafter and then blasted and coated by Portolesi Protective Coatings before being shipped to the site and installed. 

To address the root cause of the water damage, a thorough investigation of the leak's source was conducted. This led to the implementation of improved waterproofing measures to prevent future leaks. Portolesi Structural applied advanced waterproofing treatments to the affected areas, ensuring that the structure was protected against water ingress. These treatments not only addressed the immediate issue but also provided long-term protection, significantly reducing the risk of similar problems occurring in the future.

The project also highlighted the importance of continuous monitoring and maintenance of infrastructure. Portolesi Structural recommended a regular inspection and maintenance schedule for the car park to promptly identify and address any potential issues. This proactive approach is crucial in extending the life of infrastructure, particularly in harsh environments where wear and tear can be accelerated. By combining advanced remediation techniques, rigorous planning, and ongoing maintenance, Portolesi Structural successfully restored the integrity of the car park, ensuring its safety and functionality for years to come.
